MGsP: Extending the GsP to Support Semantic Interoperability of Geospatial Datacubes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Data warehouses are being considered as substantial elements for decision support systems. They are usually structured according to the multidimensional paradigm, i.e. datacubes. Geospatial datacubes contain geospatial components that allow geospatial visualization and aggregation. However, the simultaneous use of multiple geospatial datacubes, which may be heterogeneous in design or content, drives to consider interoperability between them. Overcoming the heterogeneity problems has been the principal aim of several research works for the last fifteen years. Among these works, the geosemantic proximity notion (GsP) represents a qualitative approach to measure the semantic similarity between geospatial concepts. The GsP, which has been defined in the transactional context, and can be used to a certain extent in the multidimensional paradigm, needs to be revisited to be more suitable for this paradigm. This paper proposes an extension to the GSP notion in order to support the semantic interoperability between multidimensional geospatial datacubes. The extension, called MGsP, aims to give the possibility to dig into and resolve semantic heterogeneity related to key notions of the multidimensional paradigm.

A Systematic Approach for Managing the Risk Related to Semantic Interoperability between Geospatial Datacubes
Geospatial datacubes are the database backend of novel types of spatiotemporal decision-support systems employed in large organizations. These datacubes extend the datacube concept underlying the field of Business Intelligence (BI) into the realm of geospatial decision-support and geographic knowledge discovery. The interoperability between geospatial datacubes facilitates the reuse of their co...
متن کاملA Conceptual Framework to Support Semantic Interoperability of Geospatial Datacubes
Today, we observe a wide use of geospatial databases that are implemented in many forms (e.g. transactional centralized systems, distributed databases, multidimensional datacubes). Among those possibilities, the multidimensional datacube is more appropriate to support interactive analysis and to guide the organization’s strategic decisions, especially when different epochs and levels of informa...

متن کاملToward an Architecture for Enhancing Semantic Interoperability Based on Enrichment of Geospatial Data Semantics
Semantic interoperability is needed to support meaningful data exchanges in distributed environments such as ad hoc networks of geospatial databases and geospatial web services. Even with the recent increasing popularity of ontologies to capture semantics of geospatial resources, semantics of geospatial data are often implicit or too weak to support meaningful exchanges. In this paper, we argue...
متن کاملA Real Time Semantic Interoperability Framework for Ad Hoc Network of Geospatial Databases: Disaster Management Context
Disasters are events that cross geographical, organisational and other human-made or natural boundaries. Therefore, disaster management requires that various geospatial data producers and users collaborate together in an ad hoc manner, despites their different background and contexts. While semantic interoperability is meant to support meaningful communication between geospatial databases, sema...
